Millions of benefit claimants across the UK are set to receive their payments early due to the upcoming Early May bank holiday on Monday, May 5. Instead of receiving their payments on the bank holiday, claimants will receive their benefits on Friday, May 2, as government offices will be closed on the Monday.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has also announced revised payment dates. However, those whose payment dates do not fall on the bank holiday will receive their payments as usual, with no disruptions expected.

The DWP has stated that arrangements have been made to ensure claimants receive their payments on a day when their offices are open, hence the decision to make payments early.
In a statement, the DWP said: "On Monday 5 May offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when our offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early. If the expected payment date is Monday 5 May then benefits will be paid early on Friday 2 May."
